Communing

There are very few things I love more than Portland brunch. It has been years since I have lived with roommates and I have sincerely forgotten the joy of cooking with housemates. As Crystal and John have graciously taken us in for a few days here in Minneapolis, making us tea and teaching us the wonders of ambient music, we had the privilege of spending a few hours with them in the kitchen today. Waiting 2 hours for brunch in a Portland cafe can be a bit soul-sucking. But waiting for  2 hours in a warm kitchen with pour-over coffee and fresh produce from an abundant front-yard garden is incredibly fulfilling. It is also a great way to think outside of how you usually prepare and combine ingredients, seeing food through the eyes of your friends.
